For years I have been referring to the Garda Ombudsman as a “paint job.” I have done so out of my extensive experience of them, with regard to the various individuals, activists and organisations I have worked with. I have seen complaints accompanied by incontrovertible evidence of garda criminality result in garda vindication and vilification for those who dared to complain.

It’s the word on everyone’s lips. Revolution. 2011 is the year of revolution. Tunisia, Egypt, Greece, Spain. Where next? Will it be Ireland? Or do we need to be shafted even further? We are Change lost any shred of confidence in the Democratic system long ago. We are supporting the national campaign of SPOIL THE VOTE and we urge all those who don’t trust the game to write their own message across the ballot or simply write NO CONFIDENCE. The number of people that have agreed to do this in this country is unprecedented. Let it go down in Irish history that we did not sit idly by and vote in another crowd of criminals and puppets of the Banking Elite.

..I had no illusions of what a petitions committee is…. it is a symptom of lack of democracy. In a true republic with working democracy, citizens don’t need a complaints forum because they have real power. They keep their reps on a short tether and their reps serve them. Citizens do this in many ways, most obvious is the ballot, but also through marches, lobbying, boycotts, organisations, etc. Citizens speak and reps have to listen… It is a sign of the extent of the shift in power when citizens must go hat in hand to a committee of reps to complain, so that they the reps can in turn complain to those who actually have power.

They will still continue to borrow money from the banks, allowing them the control to create fake booms and busts, to tax us for this money they borrow, get paid far more than the average worker will ever get and everyone who gets involved in that system, risks being corrupted by the flawed nature of it. We must stop giving away our power, and stay relying upon ourselves again! Voting only encourages them!

Are you sick of the banker jargon that has infected all debate? Do you feel like we are lying in hospital beds listening to doctors discussing our treatment in terms we can’t understand? Should we still believe that these experts will save us? Have you noticed that the cash injections into banks, that they prescribed, have only hastened the disease? How can borrowing even more, be a remedy for crippling debt? Isn’t it high time that we get out of these beds, find out for ourselves what is making us ill and discover truly effective cures?
